Dr Rob Foster is pleased to be able to offer a wide range of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Endoscopic services. He is very approachable and believes in patient-centred care.
Dr Rob Foster, a consultant at The John Hunter Hospital, joined Hamilton’s cosy Beechnut practice in 2019 to allow him to see a diverse range of patients in a relaxed environment. “It’s an enjoyable place to come and see patients – it makes their healthcare journey very straightforward, giving me the opportunity to focus on a different side of patient care.”
Having grown up on the south west coast of England, Rob has taken his love of the ocean and outdoors with him throughout his career. As a medical student in London, he established a surf club at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, and it was Newcastle’s beach culture which initially brought him here in 2005 after a conversation with a friend of my (now) brother-in-law who grew up here. “We thought it sounded ideal so came over as soon as the chance presented itself. We spent 6 months travelling on the way here and haven’t looked back since.”
Rob’s gastroenterology training was across the John Hunter and St Vincent Hospitals, and he has taken a keen interest in inflammatory bowel disease and advanced endoscopy. Rob is passionate about medical education and is actively engaged in a number of multicentre international research trials through his work at the John Hunter Hospital.
Both Rob and his wife completed their medical training here in NSW – she specialises in Obstetrics and Maternal and Foetal Health – and they now live on The Hill with their three children. The busy family still make plenty of time for surfing and the great outdoors.
